The Bob Newhart Show
A Saturday night television staple in the 1970s, The Bob Newhart Show centres around the professional and personal misadventures of a Chicago psychologist and his family, patients, friends and colleagues.
The four-time Emmy nominated sitcom stars Bob Newhart as the unruffled, deadpan Dr. Robert ‘Bob’ Hartley, Suzanne Pleshette as his smart and sexy wife, school teacher Emily Hartley, Peter Bonerz as his office-mate and on-the-make single orthodontist Dr. Jerry Robinson, Bill Daily as his daft and needy neighbour, airline navigator Howard Borden and Marcia Wallace as his quick-witted and sarcastic office receptionist Carol Kester.
Three of Bob’s regular patients keep things interesting and off-kilter around the office; neurotic sourpuss Elliot Carlin (Jack Riley), beleaguered, meek ex-Marine Emil Peterson (John Fiedler) and the perpetually-knitting Lillian Bakerman (Florida Friebus).
Consistently a top twenty hit, The Bob Newhart Show originally aired from September 1972 to April 1978 and made TV Guide’s list of The 50 Greatest TV Shows of All Time.
